IN TIME    BACK TO CD PAGE

At the end of a huge year, Dean has finished his third album
IN TIME to celebrate, in his words, "what I do and where I live. I can't imagine not doing music nor can I comprehend a life of not doing what makes me happy. This album comes from that place where your life is liberating and not this nagging dream that wont go away."

Recorded in Hobart Tasmania, and produced by Stewart Long it was done in stages over six months. The songs were all finished in the studio by Dean and the 4 Letter Fish Band with good food and wine high on the agenda. Says Dean "I would cook up a huge risotto or seafood pasta or something and arrive early so the first thing we'd do is sit down with hot food and a bottle of red and enjoy fun long before we'd make music. So largely, what you hear is the sound of red wine and risotto." The song NOW YOU KNOW made the Amplified Festival compilation of new Tasmanian artists released last year with great reviews. The band features Dave Wilson on guitars, Pat Breen on basses, Shayne Rodgers on drums, Kelly Ottaway and Randal Muir on keyboards and Les Johnston on brass.

The new album has 11 new songs that make a shape of time now and what will come after the album has finished. "These songs will make sense at the time you hear them or they'll stick with you when you're in the car or something and make a slow impression. A good song will last a long time regardless of how it starts." A good song is not easy to write, a meaningful one even harder.

Dean Stevenson is a gifted writer and performer of strong sentiment without being sentimental. "The listener has to own my songs as much as me" says Dean having just finished recording his third album IN TIME. Full of lush pop sounds and songs from gentle caress to pushing rock, Dean is celebrating a genre that has been with him since youth but this does not define his purest musical expression. "If I put all my favourite ideas together in one album it would the most weird arse, lumpy roller coaster ride with little continuity at all as a journey. So on this album I've put my best pop foot forward to be true to the genre and write good solid songs."
